Courtney Dubyna’s love of educating children blossomed when she began helping out in a small family daycare she attended as a child. She decided to become an educator and enrolled in Vancouver Island University’s Early Childhood Education (ECE) program.

VIU Graphic Design students create Earth Day window displays
VIU Graphic Design students are working with businesses in the Old City Quarter to create window displays to celebrate Earth Day. The window displays showcase the businesses’ sustainable products and are made from eco-friendly or recycled materials.
Earth Day is April 22 and this year’s theme is Planet Vs Plastics, which advocates for the phase-out of all single-use plastics and a 60 per cent reduction in the production of all plastics by 2040.
Three ways to make yourself more resilient
Recently a work colleague sent me a Ted Talk on resilience. My colleague and I discussed how we encounter people who do not seem to be aware of their own resilience. Why this happens is puzzling as we are all resilient people. Regularly I meet people with horrible traumas in their childhood who go on to become amazing people who achieve many things both socially and vocationally. Finances: A 101 guide for students
The other day, I was having dinner with a few friends. As we talked about rent and mortgages, I realized that somewhere between arguing about whether Ronaldo is better than Messi, and whether investing in stocks is better than mutual funds, we grew up.
The sad but true reality is that we’re adulting. And whether we like it or not, finances are a big part of that. We must learn how to deal with our money so we can pay for school and still have money left over for groceries. It can be scary and confusing, but it’s important.
